Kairos Prison Ministry
This has to be a record: Recently, Br. Kenn Beetz delivered 274 dozen cookies to the Kairos Prison Ministry program at Lebanon Correctional Institution. It was Kenn’s fourth program – and his fourth cookie drive – for Kairos, an ecumenical ministry that addresses the spiritual needs of incarcerated men and women and their families.
Kenn and fellow volunteers led 18 "residents" through three days of prayer, music and presentations, sharing the transforming love and forgiveness of Jesus Christ. "My favorite thing was working with the music," says guitarist Kenn. Besides being an assistant table leader – groups are divided into "family tables" – Kenn gave two meditations and prayed over teachers making presentations.
"It’s a lot of work" with rehearsals, program preparation and meal coordination, but "this weekend is always uplifting," he says.
